Europe forecast - February 05, 2018
Cold, Dry North
Unsettled, Mild South

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 5th February 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Dry and cold for northern Europe, more unsettled and milder in the south

Monday
Through into Monday and bitterly cold weather is expected across much of France, Germany, Poland and into eastern areas of Europe, along with much of Scandinavia too. Some snow flurries here at times, but equally a lot of dry and sunny weather is forecast. Cold and dry weather is expected to develop across much of the British Isles too through the day. More unsettled and less cold weather is expected to persist through southern areas of Europe, especially across Spain and Portugal where low pressure will bring rain and showers, perhaps with some snow on the mountains too. Showery weather develops across Italy while mainly dry and mild conditions are expected across Greece and surrounding countries.

Tuesday
A lot of fine but cold weather is forecast to persist across more northern areas of Europe into Tuesday despite some wintry precipitation across the British Isles, parts of N France and also across much of Scandinavia, including Norway, Finland and Sweden. Some particularly low minimum temperatures may well be observed across northern areas of Europe into Tuesday. Low pressure dominates through the central Med bringing showers, longer spells of rain and some thunderstorms to parts of Italy, while the Alps see yet further significant snowfall. Unsettled weather is expected across Spain too, but rather cold here with some snow for the mountains. Best of the weather will be across parts of Greece and surrounding countries where it will be fine with some spells of sunshine and relatively mild too.
