Europe forecast - February 09, 2018
Cold North
Unsettled, Mild South

Issued: 0530hrs Friday 9th February 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Increasingly unsettled into the weekend as colder weather persists across northern areas

Friday
Into Friday and a cold and showery period of weather will develop across the British Isles, the showers wintry on hills. Wintry flurries are expected across Norway, Sweden and Finland where it will be very cold indeed, while some longer spells of snow develop across the Ukraine and Belarus for example. With the exception of some scattered showers much of the Med will be dry with some bright or sunny spells and milder here than further north with some of the best conditions likely across Italy and perhaps Greece too.

Saturday
Wet and windy weather develops across the British Isles through Saturday with gales and heavy rain for a time. Further cold weather with snow flurries dominate across much of Scandinavia and also down into some eastern areas of Europe. Some of the best conditions through the day will be across Spain and Portugal where it will be mainly dry with some sunshine but rather chilly with overnight frost, especially through the interior. More unsettled weather is forecast to develop across parts of Italy and other central and eastern areas of the Med through the day in association with low pressure and with some heavy and perhaps thundery downpours developing across Greece and Bulgaria through the day where it will also become very mild if not actually quite warm given a southerly wind.
