Rain spreads across Scandinavia by Sunday


Saturday
High pressure lies across western Europe, extending from the Azores into Biscay. High temperatures continue for Iberia, topping 40C again in southern Spain and Portugal. Hot too across much of the Mediterranean, mid-30s Celsius for Italy and Greece , with a risk of thunderstorms inland. A Mistral wind for southern France, but a fair day across the country, 23C north, 30C south. Dry across the Alps and southern Germany, although northern areas may see outbreaks of rain. Thundery rain for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, also northern Romania. A ridge of high pressure extends into the Baltic, bringing plenty of dry weather, although local showers possible for southern Sweden, highs 20 to 23C. Persistent rain spreads from the west into Norway later.


Sunday
Rain spreads from the west across Scandinavia overnight and into Sunday, some heavy falls and possible thunderstorms. Brighter and fresher air follows for Norway, although expect a few showers. Weak fronts trail back across Germany and the Low Countries, bringing patchy rain of drizzle. High pressure brings fair weather to central Europe. Temperatures reaching 28 to 32C for southern France. Hot and dry for Spain and Portugal, again topping 40C in the south-west of Iberia. Dry for most of Italy, but risk thundery showers in the south. Thunderstorms are likely to break out widely for mainland Greece, Bulgaria and into Romania. The Black Sea should stay dry. Warm and dry across much of eastern Europe and the Baltic states.
