Heavy rain northern France, spreads to Alps by Thursday


Wednesday
A rapidly moving depression passes quickly eastwards across northern Europe, bringing heavy rain and gale force winds to the Low Countries, northern Germany and Denmark. Damaging gusts over 70mph may occur in some areas. Widespread strong winds for central-northern Europe, and feeling cool 15 to 18C. A further pulse of heavy rain spreads from the west across northern France during the day. Rain develops for southern Sweden. Sunshine and showers elsewhere across Scandinavia, and generally cool, 11 to 15C.
Meanwhile, southern Europe stays dry and warm under high pressure. Plenty of sunshine across the Mediterranean, Italy and the Balkans, highs 25 to 28C, but over 30C for Sicily and Greece. Also topping 30C around the Black Sea. Largely dry for the Alps. Very warm across Iberia, hottest in south-western Spain and Portugal at 35C.


Thursday
A slow-moving front lies across central Europe, bringing heavy rain to France, southern Germany and the western Alps. Showers or longer spells of rain for the Low Countries, and feeling cool in strong winds, just 15C. A ridge of high pressure builds into Biscay, and brighter skies will develop for south-west France. Dry for Spain and Portugal, with temperatures 35C in Andalucia. Some rain develops for northern Italy, but the spine of Italy stays dry. Fair weather extends across south-eastern Europe. Hot sunshine for Greece , Romania and Bulgaria. Warm in southern Poland, 25C, but cooler further north. Windy around the Baltic, with outbreaks of rain. Sunshine and scattered showers for Norway and Sweden. Some persistent rain for Finland, but also brighter spells.
