Warm Sweden and Finland; thundery eastern Europe


Wednesday
Hot and dry for Spain and Portugal, into the upper 30s Celsius in the south-west. The western Mediterranean will be dry, with a brisk Mistral breeze for southern France. Fronts bring cloud and a little rain or drizzle to western France. Dry most of the day for the Low Countries, then patchy rain later, 23C. Unsettled and cool across central Europe, with heavy rain for southern Germany, plus parts of Austria and the Czech Republic, 12 to 16C in rain. Some thundery rain for the Balkans. Hot sunshine for Greece and areas surrounding the Black Sea, 30 to 33C. Areas of thunderstorms breaking out for Romania and Ukraine, mainly later in the day. A zone of thundery rain pivots north across northern Poland into the Baltic states, leaving much of Poland dry. Rain for the west coast of Norway. Dry and warm for Sweden and Finland, topping 25C around the northern Gulf of Bothnia.


Thursday
Another hot and dry day for Iberia and the western Mediterranean, reaching 40C in southern Spain and Portugal. Sunshine for Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. Scattered thunderstorms breaking out for the southern Balkans and mainland Greece , although the Greek Islands stay dry. A risk of severe thunderstorms breaking out for eastern Romania, perhaps also central Ukraine.
Fronts extend across central Europe, bringing further rain to Germany, spreading to Poland and the southern Baltic. Breezy but mainly dry for northern France and the Low Countries. Patchy rain for central France and the western Alps, but dry for eastern Austria also Hungary. Showers for southern Norway, and a few showers also in the far north. Very warm for Finland and northern Russia.
