Chilly with rain and showers, wintry on the hills of northern England

Good morning,

It's going to be a cold and unsettled day across most of the country today. You'll need to take a coat and an umbrella as as well as being cold it will be wet for many too. Rain through central and southern England, with more rain across northwestern and and the far north of England too. Drier in the east at first with some sunny spells and breezy, but cloud increasing here through the afternoon.

Rain and snow over the far south of Scotland with significant accumulations over the hills. Heavy showers across Wales and southwest England, some of them thundery at times. Much brighter and drier in northern Scotland and the west of Ireland. Turning cloudier in eastern Ireland with rain arriving here later.

Through tonight rain extends from eastern Ireland and through northern England, this tending to turn patchier. Showers in the far south of England too, but drier elsewhere.
