Gales and heavy rain tonight; snow north

Good morning,

A series of fronts will cross the British Isles today, bringing cloudy skies to many areas, and persistent rain to west & northern areas. The south-east stays dry until later, but rain will become more widespread into the afternoon and evening.

Blustery southwesterly winds, locally gale force around coasts and hills. A developing area of low pressure moves in from the south-west this evening, bringing more widespread gales and heavy rain into the night.

Rain will turn increasingly to snow for southern Scotland and northern England tonight.

A cold and showery westerly pattern follows for Sunday, with frequent snow and hail in the west & north-west, but sunny spells for central, southern and eastern Britain.

Today's top temperatures will be 5 to 8C for many, but in the south-west it will reach 11C.

Have a great day.
