Colder weekend

Issued: 0900 Monday 6th November 2017
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

Chilly with most rain in the north, then turning colder with wintry showers on northern hills at the weekend

Conditions are set to be rather mixed for the rest of the working week. There will be dry days with little rain for many, although always more rain affecting Scotland and Ireland. By the weekend conditions look set to become colder as the winds become moe northwesterly with wintry showers on northern hills.

Thursday 9/11/17
Fronts passing eastwards through Thursday. These bring cloud and some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle to much of Scotland and Northern Ireland with an increasing risk of western coasts turning drizzly too. More eastern and southern areas tending to be dry with some bright or sunny spells. Highs at 9 to 14C.

Friday 10/11/17
Fronts slip south through Scotland and Ireland on Friday. These bring cloud and rain, some heavy in the west and it is going to be breezy. The rain arrives in northern England and Wales in the afternoon. Drier to the south with broken cloud and some bright spells. Coler weather arrives in northern Scotland as the rain clears, although there will be showers here. Highs at 6C in northern Scotland, 13C in southern England.

Saturday 11/11/17

The showers falling as snow over the hills of Scotland and perhaps the Pennines. Highs at 6 to 11C.

A ridge of high pressure builds into Ireland and the west of the UK through Monday with a morning frost for many.
