Issued: 1000hrs Friday 21st July 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Fair days early week, then rain returns

A weekend of sunshine and showers, some heavy and slow moving downpours possible. By Monday, low pressure is moving away into the North Sea, and conditions will improve for a time into midweek as pressure builds. Becoming warmer. Later in the week, fronts returning from the west bring a risk of rain and strong winds.

Monday 24/07/17
Pressure builds slowly from the west, although low pressure lingers over the North Sea. A front affecting eastern regions of Britain brings cloud and outbreaks of rain or showers. A few showers breaking out in central counties during the day, but quite localised. Good spells of sunshine for western Britain and much of Ireland. Light north-westerly winds, although eastern coasts may be breezy. Highs 18 to 24C, warmest in sheltered western areas.

Tuesday 25/07/17
A ridge of high pressure is likely to extend across the country, bringing a fair day to many places. Good amounts of sunshine overall. Chance of local light showers by afternoon in central areas, but most places will avoid these. Light winds. Warm in the south, 23 to 26C, but nearer 17 to 20C north-west.

Wednesday 26/07/17
Fronts are expected to advance into Ireland and western Britain, bringing strengthening winds and outbreaks of rain - this may turn persistent across western areas as the day progresses. However ahead of this rain, much of Britain may see another dry and bright day. Feeling warm, and more humid, highs 22 to 26C.

Thursday 27/07/17
A band of rain is likely to pass eastwards, although timing uncertain, followed by brighter skies and showers, which may be frequent in the north-west. Cloudy and humid in the south-east, fresher in the west. Blustery south-westerly winds. Highs 18 to 24C.

Friday 28/07/17
A changeable pattern is likely, with west to south-westerly winds bringing rain or showers, most frequent toward the west & north-west. However, east & south-eastern areas may stay often dry with some sun. Highs 17 to 23C.

Saturday 29/07/17
Staying mixed, with west to south-westerly winds driving outbreaks of rain or showers from west to east across the country. Breezy. Highs 16 to 23C.
