Unsettled and cool start but a better weekend with temperature rising later

Unsettled and cold weather persists over the coming days bringing showers, some of them heavy to many areas. An improvement into this weekend as pressure begins to build from the west. That improvement continues into the start of next week when temperatures will be rise too. Hints of some rain in the middle of the week before things improve again later.

Saturday 16/9/17
Low pressure is to the east of the UK on Saturday. A cool and showery pattern is likely to continue thanks to the northerly winds. Locally, rain may be frequent as showers form into bands around coasts, especially in the east. Some places may escape completely dry with sunshine, more likely in parts of Ireland and western Scotland. Highs 12 to 16C.

Sunday 17/9/17
Low pressure remains to the east although overall pressure is going to be rising from the west through Sunday. This should bring a drier and brighter day for many. There will still be some showers affecting eastern coasts of England, and an odd one in southwest England. The majority of places will be dry with sunny spells. Highs at 14 to 18C.

Monday 18/9/17
Indications are that a ridge of high pressure builds on Monday. This is going to be bringing a chilly start for many. The day should be dry with good spells of sunshine, although there is a risk of some showers affecting eastern coasts. Highs at a milder 15 to 19C.

Tuesday 19/9/17
A ridge of high pressure builds through the country on Tuesday. A weak warm front is expected to be bringing cloud and outbreaks of drizzle to western parts of Scotland and Ireland. Feeling warm for the east with the best of the sunshine here too and highs at 16 to 22C.

Wednesday 20/9/17
A ridge of high pressure is maintained in eastern and southern areas on Wednesday. A front brings stronger winds, cloud and somer rain into Ireland and western Scotland. Tops near 15 to 22C.

Thursday 21/9/17
The risk of some showery rain in Scotland, northern England, Wakes and Ireland on Thursday. More eastern and southern areas should be drier and brighter. Highs at 15 to 20C.
