Week ahead - July 06, 2017
Mixed into next week
Thundery rain at times

Issued: 0900hrs Thursday 6th July 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Generally wettest north-west next week

A slowly evolving weather pattern presents much uncertainty in forecast detail heading into early next week. A battle will take place between incoming weather systems from the Atlantic, and pulses of humid air pushing north out of the near continent. A gradual shift to a more westerly flow is likely next week.

Sunday 08/07/17
Confidence of detail is low: Slack pressure across the British Isles, generally low to the north, and also over northern France, whilst high pressure is to the west over the Atlantic. Expect some warm sunshine, but also a risk of thundery showers breaking out, which may merge into an organised cluster of thunderstorms for central & southern Britain. Winds mostly very light. Highs 17 to 21C north & west, 22 to 25C south & east.

Monday 09/07/17
Again confidence is low: A zone of thundery rain may still influence the country, although this tending to clear eastwards as pressure builds from the west. However, there is a possiblity of many hours of torrential rain for England & Wales in particular should a small area of low pressure form across southern Britain. Winds mainly light, but could become gusty in the south. Highs 17 to 23C.

Tuesday 10/07/17
Detail remains uncertain: Low pressure to the north-west is likely to push fronts across the country from the Atlantic. Rain most persistent in the west & north-west, whilst very little may reach the east & south-east of England. Blustery winds developing around, especially near western coasts. Highs 16 to 23C.

Wednesday 11/07/17
A broadly westerly pattern is expected. Showery in the north-west, but many places will be dry with sunny spells. Breezy in the north. Highs 16 to 23C, warmest south.

Thursday 12/07/17
A similar north-west to south-east split is likely. Rain persistent at times for Scotland, with showers possible elsewhere. Mainly dry south. Highs 15 to 21C.

Friday 13/07/17
Further rain at times for the north-west, but often dry elsewhere. Spells of sunshine. Feeling fresh. Highs 16 to 22C.
