Mixed into the weekend
Early summer next week

Issued: 1000hrs Wednesday 11th April 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Settling down, becoming much warmer

A messy weather pattern to end this week, with slack pressure and rather murky conditions. A little rain, but amounts mostly small. West and north-western areas will be brightest. Through the weekend, winds turn southerly, heralding a much warmer week ahead, although some rain may fringe into the far west Sunday & Monday. A sudden transition to summer-like temperatures is expected next week.

Saturday 14/04/18
A light southerly airflow across the country brings a pleasant day to many places. Early morning low cloud or fog will break up and clear, resulting in good spells of sunshine developing. A few heavy showers may break out in the afternoon, focused on central and south-eastern England. Isolated bursts could pop up almost anywhere, but many places should escape dry. Fairly mild, highs 12 to 17C.

Sunday 15/04/18
A front moves in from the west, bringing some rain to Ireland and perhaps western fringes of Britain, where southerly winds will strengthen. For central and eastern Britain it will be dry with a good amount of sunshine, which will turn hazy from the west. Some murk may develop around coasts in the south-west. Light winds and sea breezes in south-eastern areas. Feeling pleasantly warm at 14 to 19C.

Monday 16/04/18
A weakening front passes north-eastwards, leaving fairly cloudy skies for west and northern areas. Otherwise a bright day with sunny spells. Brisk southerly winds for Ireland and western Britain, lighter winds toward the east. Very mild, or even warm in the sunshine, especially south-east, reaching 15 to 19C.

Tuesday 17/04/18
A southerly airflow continues, with high pressure focused to the east. Some rain may affect Ireland and western Scotland, but most places will be dry. Plenty of warm spring sunshine is likely. Cool on the coasts. Inland highs 16 to 20C.

Wednesday 18/04/18
Lots of fine weather likely into midweek. A warm south to southeasterly airflow across the British Isles should push temperatures into the low 20s Celsius for many.

Thursday 19/04/18
Little change to a generally dry and mild pattern. Lots of sunshine. Cooler around coasts, but temperatures feeling like early summer for many at 18 to 22C.
