Mixed weekend
Becoming drier

Issued: 1000hrs Wednesday 4th April 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Cool next week in east, warmest in west

Fronts pushing in from the west on Friday into Saturday bring a risk of some rain, although slack pressure this weekend gives low confidence of precise detail. A fair amount of dry weather, but a risk of locally persistent rain. Next week, easterly winds are expected, and things should become drier as pressure builds.

Saturday 07/04/18
Detail is uncertain as weakening fronts are expected to move erratically eastwards. Risk of a period of rain for some, becoming focused on central areas, leaving a legacy of cloud and patchy rain, tending to fade. A little sun may break through elsewhere. Winds becoming generally light, mostly southerlies. Fairly mild, almost warm in any sustained sunshine. Highs 11 to 16C.

Sunday 08/04/18
Slack pressure across the country and the leftovers of previous fronts may bring rain to some places, but detail is uncertain. There should be a good amount of dry weather, but locally a risk of being wet and cool for several hours, perhaps focused on south-eastern districts. Local slow-moving showers may break out elsewhere. Fairly mild, highs 12 to 16C, but cooler in rain.

Monday 09/04/18
High pressure is expected to build to the north, whilst low pressure becomes centred to the south. A risk of some persistent rain for southern England. A cool easterly wind is likely to produce grey skies and local showers for eastern Britain. Brighter and warmer toward the west & north-west. Highs 8 to 14C.

Tuesday 10/04/18
An easterly breeze is likely to continue. Cool and cloudy in the east, warmer and sunnier in the west. A little rain in the south, a chance of becoming persistent for some. Chance of drizzly showers on North Sea coasts. Highs 7 to 14C.

Wednesday 11/04/18
High pressure remains nearby, centred toward Scandinavia or north of Britain, promoting an east or south-easterly wind. Largely dry with warm sunshine west & north-west. Cloudier and cool with patchy rain in the east. Highs 7 to 15C.

Thursday 12/04/18
Probably little change, with west & north-western regions faring best for sunshine and warmth. Largely dry, but cloudier in the east. A fresh easterly breeze in the south & east. Temperatures ranging from 7C on North Sea coasts, to 15C in the west.
