Milder than recently

Issued: 1000hrs Tuesday 3rd April 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Some springlike warmth

A showery pattern during midweek, but things becoming drier for Thursday and Friday across Britain, although some rain will return from the west. Becoming milder toward the weekend as southerly winds develop. Some rain at times. Next week starts cool, but a drier theme looks likely into mid-April.

Friday 06/04/18
High pressure to the east promotes a mild southerly airflow across the British Isles. Fronts lying to the west bring rain to Ireland, likely heavy and persistent in the south. Rain or drizzle also affects some western coasts of Britain, where it may turn wetter through the day. Largely dry in central & eastern regions. Fairly cloudy, some hazy sun in the east. Breezy, especially west. Highs 10 to 15C.

Saturday 07/04/18
Weakening fronts are expected to move erratically eastwards, bringing a period of rain to the north & west. A legacy of cloud and patchy rain may linger in some central areas, but amounts should be small. A little sun may break through. Winds becoming generally light, mostly southerlies, so it stays mild. Almost warm in any sustained sunshine. Highs 11 to 16C.

Sunday 08/04/18
Slack pressure across the country and the leftovers of previous fronts may bring rain to some places, but detail is uncertain. There should be a good amount of dry weather, but locally a risk of being wet and cool for several hours, perhaps focused on south-eastern districts. Local showers may break out elsewhere. Fairly mild, highs 12 to 16C, but cooler in rain.

Monday 09/04/18
High pressure is expected to build to the north, whilst low pressure becomes centred to the south. A risk of some persistent rain for southern England. A cool easterly wind is likely to produce grey skies and local showers for eastern Britain. Brighter and warmer toward the west & north-west. Highs 8 to 14C.

Tuesday 10/04/18
An easterly breeze is likely to continue. Cool and cloudy in the east, warmer and sunnier in the west. A little rain in the south. Chance of drizzly showers on North Sea coasts. Highs 7 to 12C.

Wednesday 11/04/18
High pressure remains nearby, centred toward Scandinavia or north of Britain, promoting an east or south-easterly wind. Largely dry. Sunniest in the west. Highs 7 to 13C.
