Most places becoming dry for several days

The start of the week brings a brisk southerly wind, and fronts which affect the north-west produce some persistent rain. However, for most place, the theme for the week is a dry one, with lots of warm spring sunshine. By midweek, temperatures will soar to summer-like levels.

Tuesday 17/04/18
A strong southerly airflow affects Britain and Ireland. Strongest winds in the west and north. Fronts to the west bring rain to Ireland and western Scotland - heavy and persistent for a time, but tending to fade. Patchy rain elsewhere for western fringes of Britain, murky around some western coasts. Central and eastern regions will be dry, feeling warm in sunshine for the south and east. Highs 12 to 15C north & west, 16 to 19C south-east.

Wednesday 18/04/18
High pressure builds in from the continent, pushing fronts away to the north. Generally dry and plenty of sunshine. Some western coasts may hang onto areas of low cloud. A warm south to southeasterly airflow across the British Isles. Still breezy in the north & west but easing compared to Tuesday. A risk of some rain for western Ireland, but should clear. Highs 18 to 23C, cooler near coasts.

Thursday 19/04/18
A continued southeasterly flow brings very warm air and lots of strong sunshine. It may become increasingly hazy. Cooler around coasts, perhaps local fog patches. Inland, temperatures widely feeling like early summer for many at 18 to 23C, locally perhaps warmer in favoured spots to the north of high ground.
 

Friday 20/04/18
Staying dry and warm for most. Chance of mist patches near some coasts. Otherwise lots of strong sunshine. It may turn hazy in the south-west, and a chance of thundery bursts of rain developing. Highs 18 to 24C.

Saturday 21/04/18
Confidence is low. Generally still very warm, but a risk of areas of rain spreading from the south or south-west. Many places may escape dry. Highs 17 to 23C.

Sunday 22/04/18
Detail very uncertain. Probably still on the warm side, but not as warm as midweek. Scope for areas of thundery rain, but many may stay dry. Highs 14 to 20C.
